How Can You Lend a Helping Hand!?

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

A bunch of people...INCLUDING MYSELF...are feeling uber stressed with this new COVID-19 coming thru and just hurting so many people in so many ways. If you're like me, you went from being happy to not work, to then crying because of worry for the students who've relied on schools for their day to day needs, to then feeling anxious that you may have the virus to being anxious that your family may have the virus to being angry that too many people are still going out...okay I will end the rant there. But, whether you're like me or not, we all are apart of a community and we all have resources to give to others. So here is a working list of some tings YOU can do to help out your community.

  1. First and foremost, STAY HOME! I get some of it, you miss your friends. You miss your family. You're an extrovert. But it is for the betterment of EVERYONE (yes, even those people that you miss) if you STAY HOME.

  2. Try to minimize your ordering online. I said this on my previous post, the less you order, the less delivery folks have to work and the less they are at risk of getting and passing the virus. Like I also said, I've failed miself and recognize how hard this is but, "si se puede!"

  3. Take care of your mental health. So yes, this IS NOT a vacation. But please keep in mind that if YOU are not good, you cannot be of help to others. So work on YOU. This is why I have posted mental health tips in my "resources for COVID-19" post...because a better you, brings a better us<3.

  4. Tutor! Yes, you can do this from home:-) Cosecha has a really cool initiative to tutor students during this time. Sign Up Here!

  5. Give Back! People need monies. Unemployment rates have sky-rocketed. And as a result, so has campaign numbers on goFundme. So browse along and consider giving $5 to a campaign. Here is my cousin's restaurant's campaign. She's out of work and pay due to COVID-19 much like every waitress and waiter everywhere..oh and all those food and financial resources I provided...you can donate to each and every one of them!

  6. Text, Make a Call, FaceTime someone. Last Sunday, I had a virtual girl's night with 3 other friends via FaceTime and THOSE LAUGHS WERE THERAPEUTIC. I'm pretty sure the girls felt relaxed too. I texted a bunch of students the other day to tell them I'm here for them and to check in. Those little acts of kindness go far! Be kind and loving because why not?

  7. Share some helpful information to get through all of this. Go to THIS post to view a bunch of organizations that are here to help!

I hope This post was helpful to all of you! To reiterate, YOU ARE NOT HOPELESS, WE ARE NOT HOPELESS. Affirm that we are hopeful. Affirm that there is hope. Affirm that you are alive and able to help, whether it be in "little" or "large" ways.
